The
Hemis festival is celebrated once in every 12 years
in the Tibetian year of Monkey. It is celebrated on
the 10th day(Tse-Chu) which is the birth day of Padmasambhava,
the founder of Tibetian Buddhism. Hundreds of followers
come from Tibet, Ladakh & other parts of world,
dressed in their finest attire to attain this holy
days. |
Hemis is situated in Ladakh
and famous for spectacular scenic beauty, exotic wildlife,
varied cultural influences and the historic Hemis Monastery.On
those festival days, the richly embroidered “Thangka”
with pearls and semi-precious stones hangs two-storeys down,
covering almost the entire facade of the monestory building.
The attinders enjoy this festival with traditional rituals
and culture among with the special yibetian food and dresses.
