name "Manali" means
the 'Home of Manu',a mythological character,who
was the only person survived when the world was
drowned in Flood. He came to this place and recreate
human life.the place is locked by peaks and a
popular honeymoon destination. |
Places of interest
Hadimba Temple:
Hadimba or Dhungiri temple is one of the important
temples in this region. This is a four-story wooden
temple located inside the forest called the Dhungiri
or Van Vihar.
Gadhan Thekchoking Gumpha:
The Tibetan refugees built the Gumpha in the late 1960's.
This Gumpha is covered with brightly coloured fresco
paintings and a mid size Buddha statute is also there.
Old Manali:
The old Manali area is located just 3km away from from
the present Manali township. The place is covered with
old guesthouses,which are ancient now.
Temple of Manu:
This is a very simple and small temple with stones
path which leads to the main entranceof the temple.This
temple is famous because the name manali is named by
Manu.

Rohtang
Pass: It
is the highest point on Manali-Keylong road and
51-km away from Manali town. It gives a wide and
panoramic view of mountains. This is basically
a huge glaciers.The Beas river rises from the
crest of Rohtang from a block of Mica-Schist.A
little lake is there called Sarkund (Dashair)
which is visited by the people as they believe
that the water effects to cure all bodily ailments.

Tibetian Temple:
There is also a large and mordern Tibetans Temple with
a small handicrafts center.
Solang Valley:
This is a very beautiful valley between Manali and
Kothi which gives the best views of the glaciers and
mountain peaks. This place is very popular for trekking
and ski lovers as it offers a good skiing slopes and
camping sight too.
Rahla Falls:
This place is very near from Kothi.The river Beas gets
down from a height of 50 metres here and gives a panoramic
view.Its a very popular picnic spot.
Triloknath and Udeypur:
Triloknath and Udeypur are two important places here.
Triloknath is a six armed image of Avalokiteshvara or
Bodhisattava. The temple of Marikula in Udeypur is famous
for its wood carving designs.
