Nahan
is situated on
an isolated ridge on the Shiwalik
hills range. The city was founded
as a capital by Raja Karan Prakash
in 1621. This is the base place to
visit the surrounding pilgrim areas
like Renuka, Paonta Sahib, Trilokpur
temple and the Suketi Fossil Park.
It is a pleasant place with panoramic
view of lake, temples and gardens
and is also the headquarter of Sirmaur
district.

| Suketi Fossil
Park |
Suketi
Fossil Park displays the life size fiberglass
models of pre-historic animals fossils.
The park is first of its kind in Asia which
was developed at the actual site where fossils
were discovered. It is 21 kms from Nahan
and on the bank of Markanda river.At present
the park has six life-size models of Stegodonganesa
Sivatherium, Hexaprotodon-Sivalensis, Colosschelys
Atlas, Paramachaerdus and Crocodilia. |

| Trilokpur
Temple |
Raja
Dip Prakash built this temple which has
a great religious importance. The temple
of the goddess Mahamaya Bala Sundri is regularly
visited by lakhs of devoties specially from
Haryana and Himachal. During Navratras in
April and October a large number of visitors
come to see this holy place. |

| Dhaula Kuan |
Just
20 kms from Nahan, Dhaula Kuan is a spot
of different interest. There is a huge plantation
of fruits and some factories of fruit juices,
jams, pickles and canned fruits. There is
a Kastasan Devi temple where Raja Jagat
Singh defeated the advancing army of Rulam
Quadir Rohilla. |

| Renuka |
This
place is 45 km from Nahan, a popular destination
offers a wild life sanctuary and a placid
lake. According to the legend, Parashuram
oredred his son to cut off the head of his
wife Renuka. Around the Renuka lake there
is a little wildlife sanctuary offers a
variety of waterbirds, deer, red jungle
fowl, black pheasant and peacock. |

| Paonta Sahib |
It
is located in the foothills and on the banks
of the River Yamuna. There is a famous Paonta
Sahib Gurdwara where Guru Govinda Singh
wrote the major part of the Dassam Granth. |

| Simbalbara
Sanctuary |
This
small sanctuary is located in the Paonta
Valley of Sirmour District. The Simbalbara
sanctuary offers Ghoral, Sambhar and Chital
with fine walking trails. |

| Barog |
This
little town is gives a fine views with the
forests of pine and deodar.It used to be
an important stop on the railway line in
the earlier part of the century. It has
the longest tunnel on Shimla Kalka narrow
gauge railway line. |

| Parwanoo |
Perwanoo
is located on the border of Punjab.It is
also the gateway to Himachal Pradesh. It
is a very beautiful place with exotic views
of natural attractions. |

| Bon Monastery
(Yung Drung Ling): |
This
is the second oldest monastery in the world.
It is just 12 kms from Solan with the natural
views of mountain ranges. |

| Karol Tibba |
Karol
Tibba has a historic value as Pandavas lived
here during their 'Agyatvas' period. It
covers 2 hours trek to rome the place which
is admired by natute lovers. |

| Sholoni Devi
Temple |
The
temple of Goddess Sholoni Devi is situated
here as the town "Solan" was named
after Devi Sholoni. The famous Shalooni
fair is held here every year in the month
of June. |
