This
desert town is India's most enchanting tourist destinations.
The town consist of remarkable sandstone architecture
which gives a honey color look at the time of sunset.This
place makes all the visirots to wish to come again
and again.

In 1156 Rawal Jaisal, a descendent
of the Yadav Clan abandoned his fort at Lodurva and founded
a new capital in Jaisalmer.Bahti Rajputs of Jaisalmer were
feudal thieves who used to capture the caravans laden with
precious silks and spices that crossed the territory of
Delhi or Sind. These caravans earned
These caravans earned the town great wealth. Later on the
rise of shipping trade saw the decline of Jaisalmer.The
whole town consist of magnificent palace, havelis, temples
and fort.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Jaisalmer Fort
The Jaisalmer fort is golden
yellow in color. Every part of Fort including outer walls
made of soft yellow Jurassic sandstone. So this fort is
called The Golden Fort. It has some havelis,three beautifully
sculptured Jain Temples and five interconnected palaces
with four gateways like Akhaiyal,Ganesh Pol,Suraj Pol and
Hava Pol.The fort has three exquisitely carved jain temples
dedicated to the Jain Tirthankars Rishabhdev,Sambhavnath
and Paraswanath.
Folklore Museum
This is the interesting place
to find out the local articles like the wooden statues of
Radha and Krishna, musical instruments, paintings etc.
Tazia Tower
This is a pagoda style structure
looming up from the Badal Mahal with beautiful ‘Taazias’(decorated
with bamboo,paper and tinsel replicas)which is carried out
in procession during Moharram by the Muslims.
Nathmalji-ki-Haveli
This 19th century made haveli
is a masterpiece of achitecture craftsmanship. The left
and right wings of the haveli is fully carved and the interior
walls are decorated with miniature paintings.
Patwon-ki-Haveli
This is the most famous haveli
in Jaisakmer. It is full with carved pillars and long decorated
corridors and chambers. One of the apartments of this five
storied haveli is painted with beautiful Rajput mural paintings.
Salim Singh-ki-Haveli
This is a 300 year old haveli
of Salim Singh ,the Prime Minister to Maharaja Rawal Gaj
Singh. It has a beautiful blue cupola roof with superbly
carved brackets in the form of peacocks.
